Cosimo Boni is an Italian trumpeter, composer, and bandleader whose work is driven by an enduring fascination with sound—its colors, its textures, and its ability to communicate beyond language. At the center of his music is a trumpet voice that is immediately recognizable: lyrical yet uncompromising, rooted in the jazz tradition while constantly reaching beyond it. Whether through composition or improvisation, Boni seeks a sound that is unmistakably personal, one shaped not by stylistic boundaries but by curiosity, vulnerability, and a relentless desire to discover new forms of expression.

For Boni, every collaboration is an opportunity to rethink his musical language. His projects emerge from dialogue—with musicians, cultures, and artistic disciplines—and reflect a belief that the most meaningful music is created through genuine exchange. Equally comfortable leading his own ensembles or contributing as a sideman, he brings the same openness and creative intensity to every setting, embracing unpredictability as an essential part of the artistic process.

Born in Reggello, near Florence, Boni discovered the trumpet through the sound of Miles Davis, an encounter that set him on a lifelong journey of exploration. After his formative studies with Florentine trumpeter Franco Baggiani, he was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music following his participation in the Umbria Jazz Clinics. He later completed both his Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Contemporary Jazz Performance at Berklee's Global Jazz Institute, studying with and performing alongside some of the most influential voices in contemporary jazz, including Danilo Pérez, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Anat Cohen, Terence Blanchard, Vijay Iyer, Antonio Sánchez, Sean Jones, George Garzone, Darren Barrett, and Rudresh Mahanthappa.

These experiences shaped not only his musicianship but also his artistic philosophy: a commitment to listening deeply, questioning familiar languages, and allowing every musical encounter to leave a lasting imprint on his own voice. His performances have brought him to venues and festivals including Newport Jazz Festival, Dizzy's Club in New York, and the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival, while his own ensembles have appeared throughout Europe and the United States.

Boni's recordings mirror this constant search for artistic growth. His collaborative projects, including Leave It Blank for Now and Xenya, reveal a composer deeply invested in collective creation, while his debut album as a leader, May Be (Unable to Return) (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2023), introduced a musical world where lyrical writing, spontaneous interaction, and sonic exploration coexist naturally. His most recent release, We Say (2025), created with Norwegian saxophonist Magnus Bakken during an artistic residency at the Italian Cultural Institute of Oslo, further reflects his commitment to crossing geographical and musical boundaries in pursuit of new artistic perspectives.

Rather than seeking a definitive musical destination, Cosimo Boni embraces the idea that music is a continuous process of transformation.
